Textual Translations would involve such tasks as the localisation of products, website material, multilingual SEO, marketing, social media marketing & PPC. There are also visual and cultural translations such as colours, design, formality & tone. The value add of native feedback and on-going integration for clients is also enormous. This is the concept of ‘glocalisation’.

From the ‘entrepreneurial’ perspective, native translators have native knowledge which is incredibly valuable and underutilised. They can use this to forge local business contacts, conceive their own ideas and build their own client base – in effect their own business. This is the entrepreneurial side of the role.


Reumeration:

The business model is biased towards an on-going percentage of revenues generated as opposed to the traditional upfront translation cost; translators thus share in the corresponding revenues. As an in-house example, at Glocal Co ourselves are about to launch Hamazing.com, a European-wide Spanish delicacies supplier.

This commission approach obviously isn’t right for or appealing to every translator. However, those who see value in a more commissions-based (a step away from the traditional fixed per-hour/per-word-based translation) environment can appreciate the huge upside earnings potential.

The role will initially be on an on-going, part-time basis which could run comfortably and neatly alongside existing commitments. In the medium term the position could transform in to a full-time post, thus we want the candidate to be aware of this possibility from the outset.
