This is an opportunity to evaluate and improve search engine results for one of the world's largest internet search engine companies.

Search Engine Evaluators will need to combine a passion for analysis, understanding of various online research tools and in-depth knowledge of Chinese language and culture. Applicants must be detail oriented and have a broad range of interests.

Ideal Search Engine Evaluators will possess the following skills

Have in-depth, up-to-date familiarity with Chinese social culture, media, and web culture
Excellent comprehension and written communication skills in English and Chinese SIMPLIFIED
Broad range of interests, with specific areas of expertise a plus
University degree or equivalent experience (degrees in-progress are acceptable). Advanced degrees a plus
Excellent web research skills and analytical abilities.
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
Possess a high speed internet connection (DSL, Cable Modem, etc.)

Search Engine Evaluators provide feedback on search engine results by measuring the relevance and usefulness of web pages in correlation to predefined queries, by providing comparative analysis of sets of search engine results and various other techniques.

All candidates are required to take and pass a qualification exam before becoming a Search Engine Evaluator. There are three parts to the exam: a theoretical component and two practical components. Supplied study materials can be used during the exam.

To enable targeting of advertisements on web pages to particular audiences, Xaxis develops and maintains software Read more » that analyses the language content of web pages. In particular, for each language we determine its language, a classification of its topic or topics and an assessment as to whether certain potentially disturbing language or content is present.
To organize the results we use a taxonomy of topics. The project requires you to learn and understand what exactly the taxonomy is for and how it works. You will then go on to create an own language version of the various applications that the semantics team provides.
Reference tools used are our original English database, the internet, dictionaries and thesaurus tools. Using these reference tools you will initially input words into a dashboard specifically designed for this purpose. Each word is selected as characteristic of one or more topics and its relevance to each topic is further balanced by supplying weight factors. Having created a data set in this way you then test and further balance the work looking at a large number of web pages.
The editor reports directly to the semantic team leader who in turn gives close mentoring and support.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Native knowledge of Czech, Polish, Spanish or Turkish
• Linguistic knowledge, in particular a broad vocabulary
• Self-governance and discipline
DESIRABLE SKILLS
• Interest in a wide range of topics
• Familiarity with recent language development and cultural situation in the home country
